Letter #14 - Conversion

March 27, 2017

Hello Family and Friends!

I had my first baptism this past weekend, Hurrah! I can testify that conversion to the gospel does not come from what we teach, but what the spirit teaches. People learn how to become more like Jesus Christ as they follow the promptings of the spirit. We've had Women's Conference so far as the start of General Conference, where living apostles and our prophet get to speak to the church and even to the world. I have felt a lot of the love Heavenly Father has for me lately, and even though I don't have all the answers to my questions, I know he is guiding me to where I need to be. Transfers are going to happen in a week and a half. We will find out what changes will happen this Friday. We are also having a surprise Zone Conference, the 2nd one this month on Friday as well. General Conference saturday and sunday, so we can expect a crazy week this week. Last p-day Sister Elwell and I went to St Simons Island, and today we went to Jekyll Island. We got to see some sea turtles and it was cute. We went with Sister Mckay and Sister Hoge. Missionary life is simply so different every day!
Remember to take the opportunity to pray about a question for general conference, so you can be prepared for a revelatory experience! You can watch on byutv, lds.org, or some of your local churches. Yes. Find your relationship with God.

Letter #13 - I Love Palm Trees

March 20, 2017

Hi everyone!

A lot has happened this week….
Due to the nature of my shoes and the sunshine, i am getting striped feet! There are crazy tan lines on my feet haha. One of the Elders from my district went home last week due to health problems, and it was sad to see him leave. But we know Heavenly Father has a plan for him, and we hope he gets to come back eventually. My companion and I got to teach many wonderful people this week. We met this girl who didn't have any religious background but she was willing to learn more, and when she said a prayer for the first time, she got teary eyed and then we left. We met this chinese woman (Maria) who had a grandma who believed in God when she was a little girl. We got to come into her home and teach her and her husband about their Loving Heavenly Father. We taught them to pray and Maria said she felt power. We gave them a Book of Mormon to read and invited them to pray everyday. Sister Elwell and I are so excited.

We have a baptism coming up this saturday! My first one! Her name is Darlene and she has been investigating for a few months now. Yesterday she brought her grandson to church and we are really excited to see him start coming as well. She is really allowing the love and peace of this gospel to come into her life. As members it is important to be very welcoming and loving to those who visit or are new to the ward. They need to know for themselves this gospel is real and that people actually live the teachings and find the joy that comes from it. As we share the love of God with others we will be enabled to overcome our trials that bring us down and be lifted up by the atonement of christ.

We ate dinner and celebrated St Patricks Day at the Palmers this week. I ate Corn Beef, Collared Greens, and key lime cake! Southern! We had pot luck after church, we had ward conference this past sunday. I ate a Krispy Kreme Donut.

Always remember that you are a child of God. Heavenly Father loves you and will able to bless you more as you strive to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Just as Jesus looked around for those who needed his compassion, let us look around and share the joy of Jesus Christ and be strengthened by His love for us.

Letter #12 -I'm chosen by a Southern Prophetess

March 13, 2017

Family and Friends,

We've had all kinds of great and weird experiences! We were able to gain the trust of a less active member. We were able to start gaining more trust from the members and ward council. We met all kinds of people, including ones who think they are prophets and can read your mind..... But I know that Heavenly Father is always aware of us and our needs! As we take courage to follow the promptings of the spirit, great blessings and miracles will come about. Others will help us in our journey. We are always strong enough when we lean on the Savior and rely on his strength. When you take the time to get to know and listen to others, they will want to give you their trust and you will be able to help them.

Letter #11 - Winner Winner Chicken Dinner

March 6, 2017

Friends and Family,

Several things happened this week. One of these things include my first Zone Conference! It was very exciting to see my MTC friends again see how they are doing. We learned a lot about knowing what we believe, believing what we believe, and applying and living what we believed. President Lee encourages us to "Catch the Vision" and keep our "lines in the water" all day to be able to FIND THE ONE. We have conference calls for missionaries in training every friday, so last friday President Lee challenged us to read Alma 5, and when you take time on it, it is really enlightening. We had trade offs with the sister training leaders and I stayed in my area, so i had to take it over for 24 hours, haha scary. But it went over really well, and Sister Elwell is going to help me become prepared to take over Brunswick, since I probably will next transfer. We had fast sunday this past week, we had Dinner at the Sabels, and it tasted really good after fasting. There was cake with strawberries and it was yummy! I dont really know what else to say right now, but I hope y'all are doing well and are having lots of fun. Being a missionary is an opportunity to learn so much about our Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ. I will try to have my journal with me next time i write an email so I can say more specific things. The world may have many nice things, but it really is essential to turn to Christ and be like him.

Letter #10 - Scabies, Jesus Jello, and speaking in tongues.....The South

February 27, 2017

Hey Y'all!
It's going as usual down here in Georgia. I've officially been out here for a transfer which seems like a miracle to me, im suprised i got this far, haha! There are a variety of reasons that the Lord sends away your progressing investigators.... Including them having diseases that you dont want :) But we do currently have two investigators that are getting very close to baptism! Yay! They are finding the blessings of this gospel and cry a lot when they feel the spirit. Testimonies in sacrament make a huge difference to investigators. One person we were talking to got really excited when we talked about feasting on the word and he got real excited and started saying things like "Jesus Jello" he really wanted to "feast on the words of Christ"
We visited a less-active member and her and her family go to another church. They told us about church experiences about people being moved by the spirit and "speaking in tongues".......unfortunately they dont really understand what that actually means. We asked her if she wanted a witness for herself if the Book of Mormon was true and she said she didnt know. But it isnt bad because that means she is still open to learning the truth. And we love sharing the Truth :)
I dont have many pictures because sister Elwell usually takes them and then sends them to me, but her email isnt working, so more next week! Hope you all are doing great. There are new adventures everyday in Georgia for sure. Thats all for now.

Letter #9 - If ye have desires to serve God, ye are called to the work- D&C 4

February 20, 2017

Dear Friends and Family,
WEDNESDAYS IS TRANSFER DAY and that not only marks my first 6 weeks here, but we are getting 12 new sister missionaries! I will be staying in Brunswick. That is fine since the work is really starting to roll here, and my companion is awesome. This will be my 2nd half training as a new missionary. There is only 1 change in my district (missionaries in my area), and everyone else i know is still serving with me. We had valentines day! We thought WE were going to give out chocolates, but instead we got some from our lovely investigator! Adrien is one of our progressing investigators, we hope he will be baptized next month! We met Angelica last sunday, she is also progressing and she has a cute little daughter named Mya. Personal Study is such a treat as a missionary. Being Set apart really actually helps you understand more, and an hour of personal study doesnt feel like enough! There is so much to learn from the scriptures and doctrines in other church material.
In the world today, Youth are facing significant spiritual trials. They do not understand they are sons and daughters of our Loving Heavenly Father. That we can feel the love of God, and as we obey the commandments, recieve a satisfaction that cannot be found elsewhere. Will you repent and be baptized by the priesthood authority of God? Will you hold on to your faith and endure to the end? Many people look for inconsistencies or transgressions of the people in the church as an excuse not to obey the commandments. But if we act on our faith, WE WILL UNDERSTAND why the Gospel of Jesus Christ is essential. Listen to that still, small voice.
Debbie was baptized! yay! She was the Elders' investigator. When she first met the missionaries, she didnt want anything to do with them. But as she progressed, she decided to quit being a heavy smoker that she was for the last 50 years. She was estatic for her baptism. She is the happiest woman now.
Below is a picture of some scriptures

Letter #8 - People ask me and my companion if we are sisters- and well......

February 13, 2017

Dear Family and Friends,

One of our investigator's daughter at church asks me where my sister is, lol. WE HAD 4 INVESTIGATORS AT CHURCH, YAY!. We get to talk to a lot of people here, but it is a hard job to keep them progessing, so we are trying to help that by setting better expectations. W had companion exchanges with the Sister Training Leaders. I went down to Lake Butler and met with investigators with Sister Ward there. Saturday night, we stopped to talk so somone and saw he had so much potential! Although we had so many bug bites by standing outside in the evening talking to him. He didnt end up coming to church or making our appointment. We hope we will still get to visit with him and his family again soon. But we were blessed with so many coming to church and had a wonderful fast and testimony meeting. Today we are having Zone p-day. We get to spend time with our zone before people are packing for transfers next monday. I've been out in the mission field for a month now! Wow! Sorry I dont have many pictures this time around.
Member Missionary work is so important. There are so many ways you can help out with the work. It is part of your baptismal covenant to take His name upon you and to share this gospel to those around you. Ask the missionaries in your area how you can be of help. They need you! Share your love to the savior and follow Him.
